The Dancer and the Devil, the Review

By Cara Watson-Hunt

If you’re ready for a sense full of magic and atmosphere then enter the Limbo Lounge for the Dancer and the Devil. You will be taken on an adventure you will have never experienced before with miraculous music, daring dancing and a picture-perfect setting.

The performance is based on three young women: Cupcakes, Celeste and Ruby who have had to become performers for the Limbo Lounge as misfortune put them there… You learn about their history and what their lifestyle is like in the Limbo Lounge and how a strange man links all their misfortunes together. As the three women link their stories together they make sure they get the revenge they need. Laverna is represented as the ‘protector’ and is also the narrator. She was able to put the cherry on top for the magic as she made herself disappear under her deep, dark, black paranormal dress which made the whole audience gasp with excitement.

Rogue Theatre is a company of 7 with an overload of talent. The music was live, which was performed by Julian Gaskell. He is a multi-instrumentalist and the audience seemed to be in serious shock when we saw him play the piano, sing, and play the violin. The live music really set the stage and atmosphere which was sometimes spine chilling. The dancing was phenomenal. They threw themselves all over the stage and, when performing duets, the girls were thrown in the air and twisted and turned around each other’s body, as well as expressing emotions the audience would interpret themselves.

Rogue Theatre are giving you the ultimate chance of watching the Dancer and the Devil at the Poly in Falmouth on the 15th March (which is organised by the Young Promoters). You will be missing out if you don’t get involved with the performance as you may be the one to be dragged on stage by one of the actors to complete their Limbo Lounge quiz. You will even be able to spin Cupcakes on a spinning wheel.

Come and enter the Limbo Lounge.

For another chance to see this show, the Falmouth/ Penryn Young Promoters group are putting it on again at the Poly, Falmouth.
